Even the earliest of the Pilgrim houses may be considered to be a forerunner of the "Half Cape" form, with one bay set adjacent to the front door. Half-Capes were the most practical of early dwellings, since they could be added to, expanded or incorporated as a nucleus of a larger home.

Welcome to Russell Swinton Oatman Design Associates. We specialize in colonial house plans and blueprints available from Russell Swinton Oatman Design Associates, Inc., in Princeton, MA offering five collections with emphasis on New England period architecture. The collections include: Cape Cod House Plans; New England Style House Plans comprised of Capes, Colonials, Saltboxes, Federal designs and The Sturbridge Village Collection of museum-authorised reproductions. Other collections include: Bowed Roof Cape House Plans and Shingle Style / Victorian House Plans. Our Bow Roof Cape Designs are those originally used by Bow House, Inc., in Bolton, MA.

Our firm offers authentic and modified New England and Shingle Style / Victorian house designs. A measure of our attention to authenticity was Old Sturbridge Village's selection of our firm to design the first museum-authorised house reproductions. We have adapted floor plans for today's contemporary requirements, from classic examples of existing period homes.

Our standard house plans (standard working drawings, stock plans,) have been noted nationally for the attention to detail and classic proportions. Many of our 100 plus home designs have been profiled in national magazines, newspapers and on television, including Cabot's Stains advertisements, over the past 30 years.
